Church leadership - decisions under pressure

Not Every Fire Is Your Fire

The 20-minute course that helps you sort the real emergency from the noise, under pressure, and get fast enough to trust yourself again. Stop reacting to the loudest thing.

    • 20 minutes
    • 5 short lessons
    • Growth level
    • Self-paced
    • Free course

Built for pastors, team leaders and ministry volunteers. Grounded in Scripture and in how leaders actually decide under pressure.

This course is free. It's part of ChurchAcademy.

From the team behind Fluro, used by hundreds of churches, now part of Subsplash.

The loudest thing is almost never the real fire.

It is 4:52 on a Friday and four things hit your phone in ninety seconds. A volunteer, a board member, a panicking teammate, and a parent whose voice is shaking. So you grab the loudest one. Or the last one. Or whatever spiked your own stress.

By Sunday you are fried, a little resentful, and quietly wondering whether you are any good at this. Three of those four could have waited. One needed a completely different response.

Nobody handed you a way to tell a five-alarm from a false alarm while your phone is buzzing in your hand. That is the whole problem, and it is fixable.

This course is for you if

    • Your phone does not stop on a Sunday and you grab whatever is loudest.
    • You decide fast, then spend the next week cleaning up what you rushed.
    • You have started to wonder whether you are any good at this anymore.
    • You lead volunteers who freeze when four things land at once.

What you'll walk away able to do

    Sort the noise

Tell what is actually urgent from what is just loud, in seconds, by asking one question: is this about a task, or a person?

    Run the Clock

Run three questions before you react to any request or interruption, and route it to act now or reflect first.

    Protect the real fire

Recognise a genuine safety crisis and act now, then refer to the right person. Never reflect first.

    Make speed compound

Run a 10-minute Friday reflection that turns this week's fast calls into next week's faster instinct.

    What you'll learn

Why the loudest message is almost never the real fire, and the one tell that sorts it fast: is this about a task, or a person?

    Two things you keep

    The 3-Question Clock Card

A lock-screen card you run before you react to anything, with the safety line built in for a real crisis.

    The Friday 10

A one-page weekly reflection that takes ten minutes and turns this week's fast calls into next week's instinct.

    How it works

    1. 1

      Enroll in the course.

    2. 2

Take the 20 minutes. Five short lessons, one at a time, on your phone.

    3. 3

Keep the two cards, run your first Friday 10, and make your next hard call with a clear head.

What changes in the first 30 days

    • You can name which of this week's fires were actually urgent.
    • You run a 10-minute Friday reflection, so next week's calls come from pattern, not panic.
    • You have killed at least one recurring false alarm at its source.
    • Fewer 9pm reactions.

These are the course's design goals, not a performance guarantee.

Made by people who have run those Fridays

ChurchAcademy builds short, practical training for the moments ministry actually throws at you. This course is pastor to pastor, grounded in Scripture and in how experienced leaders make fast calls without losing their heads, or their people. No jargon, no theory dump, and no guilt trip about slowing down. Just the sort, the card, and the habit.
